
Lady Starlight was a performer Gaga had a relationship with during that time. Vince Herbert signed Gaga to Streamline Records in 2007 after an appearance at the Lollapalooza Festival. Having served as an apprentice songwriter under an internship with Famous Music Publishing, which was later purchased by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Gaga then signed a publishing agreement with Sony/ATV. The result was that she was hired to write music for Britney Spears and her labelmates New Kids on the Block, Fergie, and the Pussycat Dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. Gaga's debut album, "The Fame", was released in 2008 with little radio attention. Gaga went on tour throughout Europe and the US to promote her album. It was not until Gaga had her first hit, "Just Dance", that the mainstream media began to become a part of the music industry. Gaga was suffering from a labral tear in her right leg. she was secretly nursing for several weeks so that she could go on the tour. She was unable walk after her show in Toronto and was in extreme pain. The tour was canceled.
